How can I optimize my results?
Although Varithena has no downtime, Dr. Lackey provides you with a few recommendations to help your healing process go smoothly.
After each of your Varithena treatments, we recommend that you:
- Wear compression stockings for 4 to 5 days after treatment if you had prominent, bulging veins to enhance the visual results of treatment. Compression stockings help reduce swelling and keep blood flow optimized.
- Walk a few times a day for at least 20 minutes each time to keep the blood flowing. As you walk, your calf muscles squeeze your veins to help blood flow upwards toward the heart.
- Avoid prolonged sitting or standing during the day. At the end of the day, use a stack of pillows or blankets to elevate your feet above your heart.
- Do not use hot tubs, saunas, pools, or baths for 2 to 3 days after your appointment to avoid the risk of infection and allow the injection site to properly heal.
After your last vein treatment, we schedule a follow-up appointment to monitor your healing progress. We ask that you keep this appointment so we can confirm your body is responding properly and address issues should they arise.
What should I expect after treatment?
After treatment, you should expect some discomfort. Your treated vein(s) begin to break down, which might cause a mild reaction.
You could experience:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Warmth
- Tenderness
- Itching
While these normal reactions should subside in a few days, contact our office immediately if you experience extreme discomfort, bleeding, or swelling.
To help with your discomfort during the healing process, you can:
- Take an anti-inflammatory medication like Aleve, Tylenol, or Motrin as directed on the bottle.
- Use ice on the injection site for the first 48 hours.
- After 48 hours, use a warm compress for 20 minutes at a time.
- Apply an Ace bandage or compression wrap if you have swelling.
- Use topical remedies like arnica gel or lidocaine to help with injection site pain.
- Take homeopathic remedies such as vitamin C tablets or grape seed extract as directed by Dr. Lackey.
Is treatment permanent?
For your treated veins, yes, Varithena near Myakka City at our practice has permanent results. Once we inject the solution into varicose veins, they collapse and do not return.
